CARBON-U · C-PCC Carbon Utilization Platform

CARBONU Co., Ltd. (CarbonU) — CCU mineral carbonation and circular-resource company: A technology company turning
into calcium carbonate.

At the core of CARBON-U is C-PCC (CO₂-converted precipitated calcium carbonate). Proven through government demonstration projects and patents, this technology recovers calcium from industrial by-products and fixes CO₂. The same technology extends to Tongyeong oyster-shell upcycling, to mine-void fill made from process residue, and to onshore CO₂ storage.

FROM WASTE TO VALUE.
FROM CARBON TO CIRCULARITY.

Industrial By-products + CO₂
→ High-Value Calcium Carbonate

C-PCC (Carbon-converted Precipitated Calcium Carbonate) is a circular CCUS technology that makes high-purity calcium carbonate from calcium in industrial by-products and CO₂ in flue gas, and routes process residue to construction materials.

Demonstrated · industrial by-products
  • No CO₂ capture equipment needed — C-PCC is produced from sources with 1%–100% CO₂ concentration (process feature)
  • KTR accredited tests: purity 99.9% · whiteness 97 · six heavy metals not detected
  • Replacing GCC cuts about 540–590 kg CO₂ per tonne of calcium carbonate (company estimate)
  • About 44% of C-PCC by weight is converted CO₂ (CaCO₃ stoichiometry)
  • Process water reused · residue used as construction feedstock

Why CARBON-U

What must be discarded and what must be replaced,
solved together in one process

Industry produces by-products and CO₂ every day, while the materials industry still relies on mined and imported feedstock. CARBON-U connects the two.

01 · PROBLEM

Waste that needs treatment

  • Alkaline industrial by-products sent to landfill — steel slag, CBS dust, Class C fly ash
  • Tongyeong generates 150,000–200,000 t of oyster shells a year (press reports) — the recycling facility handles about 80,000 t; more high-value outlets are needed
  • CO₂ in flue gas
02 · QUESTION

Materials that need replacing

  • Ground calcium carbonate is made from mined or imported limestone
  • Most solid calcium chloride sold in Korea is imported from China
  • “Can waste and CO₂ become industrial feedstock again?”
03 · CARBON-U

Recover calcium, fix CO₂

  • Fixing CO₂ with calcium from waste resources → calcium carbonate
  • Oyster shells → OCC · high-purity CaCO₃ · solid CaCl₂
  • Process residue → construction and fill materials

C-PCC Application · Tongyeong

C-PCC applied to oyster shells —
one feedstock, three products

We apply the calcium extraction and carbonation know-how proven on industrial by-products to Tongyeong oyster shells. This is not inventing a new technology — it is moving a proven process to a new feedstock.

Next Chapter · CO₂ Onshore Storage

Opened up by C-PCC residue:
Onshore CO₂ storage in abandoned mines

The residue left after calcium recovery can become a functional filler for abandoned mine voids, where CO₂ can be fixed as minerals. CARBON-U expands step by step from CO₂ utilization (CCU) to carbon mineralization and onshore storage (CCS).

Onshore CO₂ storage is a future business, not a commercial one today; the CO₂ uptake of the residue is to be confirmed through demonstration.

Zero-Waste Direction

Even what remains after extraction
becomes the next industry's feedstock

After calcium is recovered, the remaining process residue can be used as construction materials, ground fill and mine-void fill. With this structure, CARBON-U aimsfor zero waste.

Residue utilization rates are to be confirmed through demonstrations by feedstock and application.
